its great that a high end auto name like mercedes is getting into the fuel efficient car market with the "smart car" - this may encourage a new demographic segment to drive fuel efficient cars.
Yes, for the high end brands this is a breakthrough. Although Toyota is breaking bank records with its hybrid Prius (read 50+ mpg),and it has room for the family and grandma and the dog. And BMW is doing fine with its Mini-Cooper.
